Baccarat or "Punto Blanco" is a game of chance. This means that anyone can play and enjoy Baccarat. A first time player has just as much chance of winning as a player who has been playing for years.
Baccarat is played with a single deck of 52 cards, Jokers are not used. Two hands are dealt in Baccarat, the players hand and the dealers hand. The object of the game is for the player to bet on which hand he thinks is going to be the closest to 9, the dealers hand or the players. The player also has the option of betting on a tie ( this is when the players hand and the dealers hand are equal).
Cards are dealt from a "shoe" that holds 6 or 8 decks of cards. The player and the dealer will each receive 2 cards but no more then 3 cards. Before the cards are dealt, bets are made on which hand the player thinks will be the winning hand (closest to 9) or if the two hands will be a tie. The winning bet pays 1:1. Once bets are placed they cannot be changed.
The score of each hand is the last digit of the sum of the card values in the hand. Therefore, a hand with a 6 and a 9 dealt would have a score of 5 (since 6 + 9 = 15). Since Tens and Face cards count as zero – only the last digit will count, so a 10 has a value of zero. The scores will always range from 0 to 9 and it is impossible to bust.
The card values in baccarat are as follows:
If the value of your cards are more than ten, you subtract 10. So a 7 and 9 hand totals 6 (after subtracting 10 from 16). Your score will always range from 0 to 9.
Example 1: If you are dealt a Q and a 9 your score will = 9 (Q = 0 , 9 = 9 therefore 0 + 9 = 9, the score of the hand is 9).
Example 2: If you a dealt a 3 , Q and 9 your score will = 2 (3 = 3 , Q = 0 , 9 = 9 therefore 3 + 0 + 9 = 12, the score of the hand is 2).
