Survival Now The Only Focus For Wasps
Premiership survival is now the only focus going forward for the London Wasps, following their narrow 26-23 Amlin Challenge Cup quarter-final defeat at the hands of French side, Biarritz, at Adams Park.
Currently second-bottom in the Premiership table, following the most turbulent season in the club’s 145-year history, Wasps look likely to avoid the drop ahead of stricken club, Newcastle. Dai Young will be hoping his side can remain focused until they are mathematically safe.
The Wasps and Falcons join the Worcester Warriors as this season’s most underwhelming clubs in Betfair Aviva Premiership Betting.
Fighting back from 23-9 down against Biarritz, the Londoners managed to claw their way back to level terms, only for France international, Dimitri Yachvilli, to land a late (and ultimately match winning) penalty to give Biarritz the victory. A young Wasps side did themselves proud to get back level; the defeat will be hard to take after such a spirited fight-back.
With their European campaign now dead and buried, and Wasps fans' no longer in need of any Heineken Cup Betting Tips, the club will need to focus on making sure they don’t head into the final game of the season against Newcastle needing a result to avoid dropping out of the top flight.
Young made it clear he was pleased with how his team had performed against Biarritz, hoping it sparks a change in fortunes for Wasps’ in their league campaign.
"A lot of players have gained more experience than we would have thought at the start of the season, so every dark cloud has a silver lining," Young said. "The future looks good. We just need to get through to the end of the season and start looking forward. We are not out of jail in the Premiership yet."
The number of talented youngsters at the club certainly bodes well for Wasps going into the future, although that really all depends on maintaining their top flight status. Avoiding relegation will require a dramatic turnaround in events over the next few weeks. The club will be looking forward to closing this campaign out and rebuilding over the summer.
